I get strange emails about
"account suspension" and other scary things. They appear
to be coming from Web App Guru, or my own site system administrator.
They have Zip files attached to them, and tell me to open them. Should
I?
No. A good rule of thumb is "never trust anybody
on the Internet. Throw suspicious emails out immediately." No WAG
employee will ever ask for or send sensitive information over the Internet.
We will always take care of sensitive situations on the phone to minimize
confusion and optimize security.
If you receive a suspicious email from anybody
you know or don't know, containing an attached file such as a zip file,
never trust it. Be particularly skeptical if it is supposedly from a
site administrator.
- Do not send credit card numbers by email.
- Do not share passwords with "customer service"
even if they ask for it by email.
- If you are asked to follow a link to a site and
maintain your account online, do not do so without speaking to an
authorized customer service representative on the phone.
- Do not accept credit information or make purchases
on the behalf of strangers who contact you over the Internet.
If you do, you may find yourself the victim of
a phishing scam or a virus.
Phishing scams are the latest in online crime,
and are the number one reason you should never trust or believe anybody
on the Internet until you have verified their identity and authenticity.
Viruses may get through our spam filter, if they
are in the zip format, because zip files are commonly sent between computers.
However, if you receive an email for an account administrator or any
other representative, asking you to open a zip file, you can be assured
that it was not sent by us.
Delete these emails immediately.

be sent through our servers and will be bounced. This is to maintain
optimal performance of the server for all users.
